The root canals carry the nutrient ~blood~ vessels and ~nerves~ of the tooth |pulp|. These canals extend downward through the |apical foramina| of the |teeth|, in the bottom of the root |cones|, and into the |mandible| or |maxilla|. The term "root canal" is specifically used to refer to three different aspects of the tooth: the inner canal of the root cone, the lower, root cone in its entirety, and an endodontic procedure which corrects misaligned roots.
